MERIDIAN WUSHU TEAM

MERIDIAN JUNIOR COLLEGE

Hey guys...

The photos for the sentosa outing has been posted on the photo gallery web-page, do go take a look.

For those who haven't went for the outing, don't worry, we have a lot of chance during chalet ^^...

Peace,
Zhong Ming

At long last....

THE PROMOS ARE FINALLY OVER AS OF TODAY!!!!!!

We have stressed,we have snacked, we have mugged from day till night, and now its over!!!!!!!

Good job guys, no matter how you might done in the end, you have made it this far, be proud of it!!

However, this is not the final battle as you know, we still have PW as our final academic obstacle for the year.

But, there's still one more battle that we have to prepare for too, which is next year competition!!!

So start stretching guys, and try and remember your taolu if you have forgotten it (you will find the e-learning video quite useful)

And if you do not know of your taolu yet, just do some conditioning of your own first, as activity will not start so soon.

Heres what you can do at home for conditioning..
-Stretching
-Practise the kicks (Zhen ti , li he, wai bai, dan pai, shuang pai)
-If you got the space...do the jumping kicks and xuan zi /qian sao/hou sao if you can ( space is always there for you to use if you are thick skinned enough, trust me :p)
-General conditioning (planks, step up,skipping, push up,skipping,fu bei ji (the one which you touch your toes), horse stance(hold for 1 -2+ minute, depending on how much you can take) etc etc)

We have only half a year left guys, lets make the most out of it and get our golds next year!!!

(P.S.Btw, sentosa outing this saturday, just go ok, and reply neville if you haven't done so.)

Update!!

(Note: this should be seen after the promos, if you are looking at this while in the midst of promos, OFF YOUR COM AND START MUGGING!!!)

Hey guys, its been a long while since the last update, which is before teachers day......
So, first and foremost, GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!
Its like the whole school suddenly decided we should join dance or something (or make dance join us..whatever XD)
So be proud of yourselves, you are the one in the ten MJC peeps who can actually dance!!!

Ok, now to the serious stuff....
As you know, after the promos will be the Project Work OP preparation...so there won't be training...yet...
The fun part comes after this, for more information look at the calender (November and December) or if you are lazy ...

Training Schedule after OP
Training Dates
November
December

16,18,20,23,25,27,30
2,4,7,9,11,14,16,18,21,23

Yes, if you are wondering, it will be training every Monday, Wednesday, Friday right after the OP presentation till Chrismas Eve.
So if you don't want to experience "super-soreness!!" during then, it's time to start stretching again!!!( Not need split every single day, even a few kicks or touch toes is better than nothing)...I will also draft up a mini DIY training schedule for those who are interested for you guys to ease into training after promos, which will be uploaded after promos.

So happy OP preparation /Mugging/ playing/ whatever you doing!!!!

Peace,
Zhong Ming

Mini-update

Hey guys, notice the new "Teachers Day " tab on the lower left corner?
This is created by Rachel, and all of us will have to go look at it okay, it pretty much sums up what we are doing for teachers day performance.
Have fun learning the dance ^^...
By the way, the promos is next month, and once again CCA will have to stop.So much remember to stretch during the mugging period and don't slack.
Everyone MUST do well for promos ok, emphasis on "MUST", if you don't i will personally bury you in a year worth of lecture notes!!!Lol, jkjk...

Peace,
Zhong Ming

Random ranting

Hey yozz, I'm back!!!

And that's after almost 2 months of hiatus, of which most of us have been through hell due to exam...

But the good thing is...we survived ^-^

Well, i was supposed to try and make up for what i am supposed to fill in (birthday people biography etc etc),but ya, i was lazy, don't worry, i promise i update next year XD..

Well, for most of us, we might have gotten crappy grades and have to go "meet the parents session" ,with some exception (cough... neville..cough...you..cough.watch ..it):P.But don't worry, there's no mountain too high and no sea too wide as long as we work hard together, so don't fuss about the exams anymore ok ^^.

And one more thing, we are planning up a performance for teachers day, which does not necessary have to be wushu performance( though highly recommended), one nice option is to do a fusion of wushu and dance together( as proposed by a LOT of people). But of course, alternative ideas are always welcomed :D.And as you can see, im not exactly a expert cheographer, we would need some people to plan up the dance should we proceed with this idea.Any good dancers around?Don't be shy (evil smile)...

And one more thing (god i like this phrase XD),in terms of training wise, i understand most of you may be too tired or too busy for training after you reach home, but, just try to stretch a bit/ practice your routine whenever you have some time ok....this is quite important as we do not have the coaches around and we don't know when they will come back. So, just do a bit of stretching at home before you sleep, think of the moves you learnt when you are stoning...etc etc, every little thing counts!!!!

And one more thing, for some people, you may feel that you are lagging behind, but don't worry, everyone needs time to adapt and shine, and your time will certainly come too. Do not get discouraged and continue working hard, and you will probably outshine all of us sooner or later :).

And one last thing.....can someone else other than me come and update the webby too, don't have to be official stuff, we accept spams/randomness/lameness/jokers and many more, so please come and write in!!!!!!!

Peace,
Zhong Ming (i want to do ce kong too!!!!!lol)

Birthdays!

And now, after a long period of "deadness" in the blog, let start of with a happy event...

WHICH IS FISH BIRTHDAY!!!!

(Fish a.k.a Jing Yu)
Most of us should have known her by now, the crazily flexible, the the crazily high, the crazily...crazy girl that could eat more than a cow.(jkjk)She is also the one who made the hide and seek game for last year funfestique, of which we are going to use again (i think) this year.

See, i said you will get your turn :p.

Ok, to the people who actually read this blog, I know you all have been mugging hard (i think) for the mid-years.So lets own that exam upside down!(or just avoid getting owned XD),we can do it!!!

Peace,
Zhong Ming

CIP Activity question.

AT LAST....

Ladies and gentlemen, may i present to you....

THE WUSHU TEE FINAL DESIGN!!
!!

And now a word from our chief designer : Gary!!!

"Hey i only attach the first draft of the front design and the back, i can't do the one with the Chinese words in front cuz i don't have the right fonts and it looks hideous when i made it...erm when confirm the supplier le then i'll ask just tell them to use the fonts they have...cuz they will have lots of nice Chinese fonts de..."

Birthdays!! (and everything else)

Well, first of all, lets say a big "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!" to HAZEL and KEN, congratulation to being one year older and one year nearer to wrinkles XD ...
(For fish, don't worry, u'll get your turn :D)
Now, for a short intro:

Hazel
She has been our publicity ic before the current sub-comm took over, without her, this blog wouldn't be alive in the first place!!(or is it alive?)
Aside from that, she's a very sweet and friendly girl who had helped us out along the way many times too :)....(For the guys who still don't know who's hazel yet, just find a photo in the gallery with all the gals present and look for the shortest one XD, jkjk)

Ken
He has been our quarter master before Beatrice took over, and the thing about him is...he's sadist!!!(jkjk).Remember the times he made us do the push ups and the times he pressed our legs down during stretching T-T?But that was all done to make us all stronger and fitter, and not to mention more flexible too!

So, to these 2 peeps here.....TENJEWBERIMUCH for all you have done!!!!

Ok, with birthday aside, just to remind you all that there will be training tomorrow morning at 11am,and i would like to ask you all what type of CIP you all will like to do(as in, to help animals kids elderly or environment or anything along that line...)so we can try to organise one after the MYE.Just write it in the tagboard will do :)..AND MOST ImPoRtantly, WUSHU OUTING this sunday!!!!!Please try to make it if you can, and lets all have fun!!!(you'll need it to tide over all the mugging XD)

Peace,
Zhong Ming
(PS:btw, for people who wants to write in the website, you can get the user and password from me or any of the webby sub-comm, lets get this blog alive and kicking!!!)

Wushu-Your CCA of choice

Mission

"At Mjc Wushu, our mission is to promote Wushu as a scintillating and robust CCA. With the aim of nurturing self-discipline and creating close kin relations among members through a spectrum of activities."

With this in mind, our CCA aim to create a safe, fun, and supportive environment for everyone to enjoy the benefits of martial arts:

  • Fitness and good health
  • Confidence, mental strength, and discipline
  • Self-defence
  • Life long friendships

Philosophy

In Wushu, we firmly believe that our members should excel in both academic work and CCA. As such, the “meridian lion” on our emblem symbolizes our member’s ability to attain academic excellence in whatever course they may pursuit. The Chinese character at the back meaning “Martial” translates into discipline and skill, a trait of which all our members should aim to have.

History

The Meridian Wushu team was first established in the year 2006 solely by Mrs Jerene Tay who became the first teacher-in charge for the MJC Wushu team. The team started off as a small group with only a few experienced Wushu members. However, with constant determination and hard work, our Meridian Wushu boy’s team emerged as Overall ‘A’ Division Champion in the National Inter-Schools Wushu Championships during our very first year. This was indeed a significant stepping stone to our subsequent success in these past few years. With high expectations, our Boys team clinched a 1st runner up and Champion status in year 2007 and 2008 respectively. Alongside, our Girls team managed to break a title for themselves by getting 1st runner up just recently during the year 2008. This was an undeniably a great achievement for a considerably young CCA in the college. Today, the MJC Wushu team is renowned for being a top-notch CCA in Meridian Junior College. (For more information click on achievements)

What makes Wushu different from other CCAs?

For starters, it’s a practical world out there that views CCAs as a mean of gaining a decent testimonial for your future university life. Wushu as one of the top five niches CCA in MJC ensures you the “golden testimonial” that you have always wanted.

Unlike other sports, failure to get into the school team does not signify that your testimonial would be any less glamorous. It is because of this very reason, that our team has created “sub-committees”, to allow members that are not involved in competitions to also take up key leadership positions and to initiate and organise events, of which is also recorded under the testimonial. Few egs are, CIP com, website com and our publicity com. Members, who aspire to do more, may also run for EXCO, for further leadership developments.

Our CCA also offer valuable overseas exchange programmes to allow members to hone their skills and train with the best in the world. Other than that, it is also a wonderful avenue for members to have fun and bond together.

To top it off, no trials are needed! We value and appreciate every member that wishes to learn this sport, and aims to realise your inner potential for wushu. Currently new programmes are being revised to enhance your learning!

As the fastest growing CCA in MJC, it is indeed remarkable that we have achieved so much in such a short span of time. This year, wushu hopes to contribute in getting the sustained achievement award by getting into the top 4 in this year’s interschool competition. Wushu guarantees you an unforgettable experience that will last a lifetime. So don’t wait, join us in creating history!

Capricorn (21/12-20/1)

On the Outside

The Capricorn personality is very grounded in reality; it's the rock that everyone else loves to lean on. For the most part, Capricorns are quietly strong-willed and self-assured. They truly know who they are, so they are comfortable in any social situation they choose to participate in. Although Caps sometimes have a reputation as being a bit stodgy, they often astound their companions with their sharp and sudden wit.

On the Inside

Caps are highly dependable, yet they can still suffer inwardly from mood swings that carry them from the heights of euphoria to bouts of depression. In most cases, they are adept at concealing these conflicting moods in public. It is only their closest friends and family that are given a glimpse

Caps make excellent friends, and their loyalty is without question if they take you under their wing. However, woe to any friend that betrays them. Caps have long memories, and they make daunting enemies to those who are foolish enough to mistreat.

To end off.........A BIRTHDAY SONG!!!!!!

Serious....no racist intentions made...... if any gonvernment body is secretly reading this post..dun sue me.

Mjc wushu team

We can do it!

Hi,

I understand that many people are dreading the year of 2009, due to various reasons. But this is what I have to say to the whole team….

This year is not going to be an easy one for us as a competitive CCA, however when faced with an overwhelming difficult situation, be it your opponents, upcoming examinations or mountain of tutorials….remind yourself that success is simply the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out. As such, the greatest results in life are usually attained by simple means and the exercise of ordinary qualities best summed by perseverance and hard work. Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal. Vice versa, nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. Therefore, in face of the upcoming adversities I urge all to keep steadily before you the fact realise that all true success depends at last upon yourself. We cannot change the fact that other schools might be significantly stronger so much that they pose an enormous threat, surely there is something in the unruffled calm of nature that overawes our little anxieties and doubts. However, what I wish to highlight is to not waste your life in doubts and fears, but to spend yourself on the work before you. Be well assured that the right performance of this hour's duties will be the best preparation for the hours or ages that follow it.

Albert Careb once quoted that, “In the midst of winter, I found there was within me an invincible summer.” With utmost sincerity, I hope that every member of the MJC wushu team finds his/her own summer in this seemingly difficult year of 2009. Press on! A better fate awaits!

p.s: hope anyone that is reading gets my message, or I will look stupid. Haha

Debrief + Notice

Hi,

This is on behalf of the Excos.

We're very glad that almost everyone could attend today's 'special' training.
Some of us were certainly surprised that there were no coaches but only seniors to coach us. (thumbs up, seniors!)
Whatever the reason, we're really glad to see that most of us are putting in effort to maintain MJ's Championship Title.

Notice~

IP MAN: 'YONG CHUN'

MOVIE REVIEW: IP MAN

Filled with lots of actions and lots of moral education about Wushu, it is indeed a fantastic and a 'must-watch' movie especially if you are a Wushu-learner! The movie was generally about Ip Man, a Chinese martial artist who practised Yong Chun. The movie is not very draggy or boring. In fact, it is filled with lots of action scenes which make the movie quite exciting. You are also able to learn some values about Wushu and realise that Wushu is not just about fighting. It is definitely worth your ticket money to watch this show. For more details, you may wish to visit this website, http://www.ipman-movie.com/ or better still, JUST GO WATCH THE MOVIE!

You may also visit the website to find out more about Master Ip Man and the origins of Yong Chun. Its very educational.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hi ALL,

Wish that you'll be showered with lots of loves and lots of gifts!

Wish that you'll always be surrounded by your fun and lovable friends (like me, hehe~) and family!

Wish that you'll remain healthy and fit (so that you guyz are well-prepared for next year's competition XP)!

May all these wishes come true in this period of thanksgiving! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Haha! Remember this budget christmas tree we had for our chalet in 2007? It reminds me of the good old days~

Best regards,
Timothy Chan
Captain 2007/08

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RU JIN!

Happy 18th Birthday to our Secretary for 2007/08, Tay Ru Jin (07S307)!

May you stay pretty forever and wish that you that you'll be flooded with lots of gifts and friends! Stay happy and once again, Happy Birthday!

A Short Introduction about Ru Jin

Ru Jin is definitely one of MJC Wushu most efficient secretary ever! She is also the REACH vice-chairperson! Despite having  MANY MANY MANY other committments in the college, she is able to manage her time very well. Being a very caring, friendly and easy-going girl made her a great team player! (In fact, I've never see her getting angry before. Hehe~) She is someone whom you can really trust and there is no doubt that she is indeed a good friend. With a SUPER DUPER kind heart, Ru Jin was involved in COUNTLESS community involvement activities and her contributions were recognised by the college by awarding her with the Meridian Junior College's MOST OUTSTANDING STUDENT VOLUNTEER AWARD 2007/08! WOW! She has indeed did the Meridian Wushu Team proud!
